When the holidays roll around, as they are known to do, I can't help but remember how much I loved watching the Christmas specials on TV every year. One of my all time favorites was (and still is) Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. To this day, I still very much enjoy watching this and all the other Rankin & Bass stop-motion specials. In the early 1960's Rankin & Bass was founded by Arthur Rankin & Jules Bass, as VideoCraft International. In 1964 they produced a special for NBC and sponsor General Electric,  Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. This was a stop motion adaptation of the Johnny Marks song,  with Burl Ives as the narrator, Sam the Snowman. It became one of the longest running and most popular Christmas specials in television history. Thru the 1960's VideoCraft produced other stop motion & traditional animation TV specials & films. 1965 saw the release of their first theatrical film Willy McBean & His Magic Machine. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Easter specials soon followed. The Halloween special, Mad Monster Party, featured Boris Karlof in one of his last performances. Rankin & Bass went on to produce some of the most recognizable & classic holiday specials, such as, Frosty The SnowmanThe Little Drummer Boy, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Here comes Peter Cottontail, and  The Year  without A Santa Claus, featuring Heat Miser & Snow Miser.
