1 MONTH AND COUNTING...

WOW, time is sure flying!!  We're down to only 1 month and 1 week until Rocklahoma kicks off July 9!  That's right, the powers that be have realized how HUGE this thing is, and how many bands want to be involved, so they have added another day of music!  It all kicks off on Wednesday with Rock N Roll Fantasy Camp, where the camp counselors will be the likes of guitar greats Gilby Clarke(GNR) and Chris Slade(ACDC/The Firm) and front men Mark Slaughter and Kip Winger.  Plus, get the chance to perform onstage as the opening act for Wednesday night's lineup!  For more details got to rockfeverfest.com.

We will feature all the additional bands in the final Rocklahoma newsletter for July.  And now, on to Saturday's lineup...

Pretty Boy Floyd

The roots of Pretty Boy Floyd can be traced back to a band called Doll, after lead vocalist Kerry Doll, and included Aerial Stiles on guitar, Vinnie Chas on Bass, and Kari Kane on drums.  In 1987, Steve "Sex" Summers replaced Doll, and Kristy Majors replaced Stiles, they were signed by MCA and took on the name Pretty Boy Floyd.  Their debut album Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz proved to be their most successful release, spawning two hit singles "Rock And Roll" and "I wanna Be With You".  Though most of the material on the album was written by Stiles, Majors penned "Rock And Roll".  In 1991, after MCA discontinued their financial support, the group disbanded.  Kane, Majors, and Summers reunited in 1995 with the addition of Keri Kelly on guitar and Keff Ratcliffe on bass.  The current lineup slated for Rocklahoma goes back to the original Summers, Majors, Chas and Kane.

Every Mothers Nightmare

Hailing out of Memphis, TN EMN fused the sounds of Blues, Metal and Southern Rock into a unique sound that landed them a record deal with Arista.  The original lineup consisted of Rick Ruhl-vocals, Steve Malone-guitar, Mark McMurty-bass, and Jim Phipps-drums.  Their biggest hit, "Love Can Make You Blind" made it to #22 on the charts.  Unfortunately, their breakthrough came just in time for Metal to fizzle out and Grunge to take over.  Current lineup is Ruhl, Phipps, Travis Hall-guitar, Jeff Caughron-guitar, and Troy Flemming-bass.

Tora Tora

Touring with all four original members, Anthony Corder-vocals, Keith Douglass-guitar, Patrick Francis-Bass, and John Paterson-drums, Tora Tora is another band out of, Memphis, TN.  They won a battle of the bands contest from a field of 60, and used the prize money to record an EP which lead to them signing with A&M.  Two albums were released, Surprise Attack 1989, and Wild America 1992.  A third album was recorded, but the label folded and it was never released.

Black 'N Blue

Coming out of the Pacific Northwest, Portland, OR, Black 'N Blue is yet another band whose timing was over run by the grunge movement.  Their four studio albums released on Geffen Records received critical acclaim and sold over 1 million copies collectively.  Their one hit single, "Hold On To 18", was off of their debut album.  Plans for a new album originated in 2003 as original members Jaime St. James-vocals, Jef Warner-guitar, and Patrick Young-bass entered the studio to lay down some tracks.  It was never completed as James joined Warrant in February 2004.  Tommy Thayer, original guitar player, is the only missing original member in the current lineup and is now the lead guitarist for Kiss.  Original drummer Pete Holmes, and additional guitarist Shawn Sonnenschein round out the current line up, who plan to finish the album, Hell Yeah, for a 2008 release.

Trixter

Trixter's self-titled debut album made it to #28 on the charts, and spawned 3 hit singles, "Surrender", "One In A Million" and "Give It To Me Good".  The album also reached gold status and their videos got significant airplay on MTV.  The follow up, Hear did not garner as much commercial success, and the band broke up soon after the release of their third studio album.  The band consists of Peter Loran-vocals, Steve Brown-guitar, PJ Farley-bass, and Mark "Gus" Scott-drums.

Lynch Mob

After several successful albums and tours with Dokken, guitarist George Lynch ventured out on his own and formed his own band, Lynch Mob.  Their first release Wicked Sensation 1990, proved to be the most commercially successful, and the title track their most successful single.  The band has seen several line up changes throughout the years.  An appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno consisted of Lynch, Vinny Appice-drums, Marten Anderson-bass, and Andrew Freeman-vocals.  The current make up of the band includes Lynch, Oni Logan-original vocalist, , Tommy Aldridge-drums, and Marco Mendoza-bass.

Kix

Kix worked the club circuit in and around Baltimore for three years before finally being signed by Atlantic in 1981.  Kix original line up was made up of vocalist Steve Whiteman, bassist Donnie Purnell, drummer Jimmy Chalfant, and guitarists Ronnie Younkins and Brian "Damage" Forsythe. Their breakthrough album was their fourth release, Blow My Fuse, which included the band's biggest hit, "Don't Close Your Eyes".  The band toured vigoursly in support of the album with an electrifying stage show, but soon found themselves in some financial trouble with Atlantic.  They released two more albums, including a live album recorded at University of Maryland's Cole Field House.  Current lineup includes Whiteman, Chalfant, Younkins, Forsythe and Mark Schenker is now the bassist.

Warrant

For the first time in nearly 15 years, the original "Down Boys" have reunited to reform Warrant, not only for Rocklahoma, but a tour with CInderella and plans for a new album in 2009.  In their two decade career, Warrant has managed to sell over 8 million records, 2 albums made it to the top 10, 3 in the top 30, 5 top 40 hits and 9 top 100 hits.  They are most recognized by their driving rock anthems "Where The Down Boys Go" and "Cherry Pie" as well as touching ballads "Heaven" and "I Saw Red".  The years have seen several lineup changes, but all five original members will be taking the stage in July at Rocklahoma: Jani Lane-vocals, Erik Turner-guitar, Jerry Dixon-bass, Joey Allen-guitar, and Steve Sweet-drums.

Cinderella

Before they made it big, Cinderella was made up of four guys from Philadelphia, PA, Tom Keifer-vocals/guitar/keyboard, Eric Brittingham-bass, Michael Smerick-guitar, and Tony Destra-drums.  Smerick and Destra left to form the band Britny Fox, before they were signed by Mercury/Polygram.  Guitarist Jeff LaBar and drummer Jim Drnec joined the band as they headed to the studio to record Night Songs.  Drnec proved to be a handful, and producer Andy Johns replaced him with sessions drummer Jody Cortez.  Fred Coury joined the band in time to make it onto the album cover and for the supporting tour.  The band was struck with a devastating blow in 1991 when Keifer lost his voice due to paresis of his vocal cord and underwent several surgeries, which put the band on hiatus for several years.  The band was back on track by 1997, with a new tour in 1998 in which they recorded a live album, Live At The Key Club.  In 2005 Mercury released a compilation, Rocked, Wired and Bluesed: The Greatest Hits, and CInderella headlined the VH1 Classic Rock Never Stops Tour.  In 2006, Cinderella hit the road with Poison, both celebrating 20 years since their debut releases Night Songs and Look What The Cat Dragged In.  It would prove to be one of the most successful tours of 2006.

***Pretty Boy Floyd was in a legal dispute with a band from Canada with the same name.  Ultimately, the Canadian band adopted the name Tommi Floyd after their lead singer.

***JIm Phipps, drummer from Every Mothers Nightmare, accidentally hit Clive Davis of Arista Records with a drumstick, who took it as a sign that he needed to sign the band

***Tora Tora printed only 1000 copies of their EP, To Rock, To Roll, and sold them all on the first day it was released.

***Two of Black 'N Blue's albums were produced by Gene Simmons of Kiss.  Original guitarist, Tommy Thayer is now the lead guitarist for Kiss.

***The single "One Mo' Time" appeared on the movie soundtrack for the film If Looks Could Kill, and featured legendary rocker Edgar Winter on Saxophone.

***It was rumored that George Lynch was due to reunite Dokken for Rocklahoma and a summer tour, but plans fell through, leading Lynch to, instead, reunite with Lynch Mob original vocalist Oni Logan.

***It is believed by many that Poison front man Bret Michaels studied the stage show of Kix lead singer Steve Whiteman, and based his own performance almost identically on Whitemans "moves".

***In 1992 Warrant released Dog Eat Dog, landed a spot on the European tour Monsters Of Rock, then were dealt a few blows when they were dropped by Columbia and lost their long-time manager, Tom Hulet.

***Cinderella caught their break when Jon Bon Jovi saw their show in Philadelphia and passed the tip on to his A&M Rep to check them out, leading to their deal with Polygram/Mercury.

***Next months newsletter will feature Sunday's line up, plus all the added bands: Firehouse, Jackyl, Ratt, Axe, Zebra, UFO, Steelheart, Ace Frehley, Tesla, Queensryche.
